WASHINGTON — The Trump administration will send over 100 federal agents to Portland, Oregon, as a direct response to the mass riots and nightly looting that has consumed the city.

The U.S. Marshals Service will send approximately 100 deputy U.S. Marshals, according to a report published by The Washington Post. The first batch of agents began arriving on the night of March 23rd.

In addition to U.S. Marshals arriving in Portland, the Department of Homeland Security is also considering deploying 50 U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel.

On July 26st, a shooting was reported in Portland. A bag, with loaded rifle magazines and Molotov cocktails, was found. This led to an intense confrontation between demonstrators and law enforcement on July 27th.

Currently, there are 114 federal agents actively patrolling the city. The increase in police presence would double the federal presence.
