Reddit bans ‘The_Donald’ subreddit with 790,000 subscribers for ‘hate speech.’

SAN FRANSISCO, CA — Approximately 126 days before the 2020 General Election, Reddit has made the decision to ban the subreddit ‘The_Donald,’ which was used as a platform to distribute information throughout President Donald J. Trump’s online supporter base.

The group was not officially moderated by the Trump Campaign; however, it existed as a community of 790,000 Trump supporters. This decision to remove the subreddit was part of the platform’s efforts to limit “hate speech.”

According to CNN, Reddit stated that they attempted to negotiate with the moderators of ‘The_Donald,’ but was unsuccessful at reaching an agreement.

“Reddit said ‘The_Donald’ forum has consistently broken its rules, antagonized other communities, and the moderators have refused to meet Reddit’s ‘most basic expectations,’” CNN reported. “The company also said it has given the community warnings and changed its moderators.”

Reddit has expressed that they will not attempt to negotiate with additional subreddit moderators, if a group violates their rules on perceived ‘hate speech.’
