Rocket Attack Injures U.S. Personnel at Al-Assad Air Base in Iraq

AL-ANBAR, IRAQ — Several U.S. personnel were injured in a suspected rocket attack on Monday at Al-Assad Air Base in western Iraq. A Department of Defense spokesperson confirmed the incident to ABC News, stating, “Initial indications are that several U.S. personnel were injured.” The base’s personnel are currently conducting a post-attack damage assessment, with further updates to follow as more information becomes available.

A U.S. official also confirmed that two rockets were launched at the base. In response to the incident, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed during a Situation Room meeting, as tensions continue to simmer in the Middle East.
